E-book: Lessons from the life of the Virgin Mary

As someone who was raised Protestant, I can honestly say that I never heard anyone preach on Mary. The only time Mary was mentioned in church services was at Christmas time and during Christmas plays. I guess in the move to stay away from the Marian worship seen as idolatrous by many Protestants, somehow the significance of Mary and her life have been overlooked. I recently completed a study on Mary and wrote an e-book about things we can learn from her life and I can’t express how much I have been touched by this study. There are so many bits of truth and wisdom gleaned from Mary’s life that I feel are extremely applicable to young girls today. I truly feel that many non-Catholic and I guess non-Eastern Orthodox denominations are doing a great disservice by not teaching on Mary.

One of the main facets of Mary that has ministered to me is her sexual purity in relationship to the favor she received from God. As someone who came to learn about sex at the hands of an adult pedophile, I can’t say that my childhood is one that was steeped in sexual purity. I was pregnant at 15- but then, more than likely, Mary was about that age when she had Jesus. To compare Mary with the teen moms you see on MTV (if that’s the correct network Teen Moms is on) one quickly sees a vast difference in character. But the truth is that Mary was chaste, she was sexually pure, she was devout and feared God, knew Scripture, was full of faith, so much so, that during her teen years, God chose her to give birth to the Messiah.

What a wonderful example for all young girls to follow! I think it’s a real shame that Mary is not being held up as an example for young girls to follow in youth groups worldwide. The Bible is full of some pretty awesome female power. From Deborah the judge and Ruth’s faithfulness, to Esther and her wisdom, the Bible has plenty of examples for girls to set as role models, but after my study, I have to say that Mary is the best role model of all.

The thought that I have never heard anyone preach on Mary just really shocks me. I know this isn’t the case in Catholic circles, but in the Protestant and non-denominational congregations I’ve been in- she is only referenced the week leading up to the Christmas play.

The e-book is short and sweet and includes beautiful artwork on Mary. It’s only $5.00 and I found it to be very inspiring.
