The origins of a cult

The word cult may be used freely such as a cult film, cult band or cult books; however, when speaking of mind control and brainwashing, the word “cult” takes a sinister turn. The word “cult” first came into American society in 1932 by sociologist Howard Becker. The word derives from Howard Becker’s explanation of church behavior which was classified as mystical, sectarian and churchly. What may be most interesting about the word cult is that is has both pleasant or common and negative connotations.
