Matthew 16: 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Michael Jackson Dead
Elvis Presley Dead
Marilyn Monroe Dead
Anna Nicole Smith Dead
The similarities between these four are beyond compare! Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, Elvis Presley the King of Rock- Marilyn Monroe shot to fame as the voluptuous blonde bombshell, Anna Nicole Smith purposely set out to be the next Marilyn Monroe- her short lived career revealed that she would fill Marilyn Monroe's shoes in death as well as in life.
By the world's standards, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and Anna Nicole Smith had it all. Everything that the world had to offer, they could afford. All of the attention, praise, adoration, and status that the world has to offer, they had. They had movies, they had fame, they had music, they were, and as long as this world endures, they will be American icons.
Then why did all four of America's greatest pop icons of all time have drug addictions?
The world afforded them everything it had; and when they obtained the greatest heights that you can reach in this American pop culture ridden society, something was missing. Marilyn Monroe overdose, Elvis Presley overdose, Anna Nicole Smith overdose, Michael Jackson's cause of death is still being determined and the 'Michael Jackson Autopsy' is being performed. Speculation has already risen to the surface that Michael Jackson was addicted to prescription pills. His live in doctor has already fled, according to the website TMZ.
How could it be that those who have obtained the highest level the world has to offer find themselves addicted to drugs? What is the reason? What is the cause? Why aren’t fame, fortune, success, and riches enough? How can a person strive their entire life to be rich and famous, meet that goal, and find themselves left unhappy and needing an addiction to prescription medications to make it through the day?
All of these lives cut short, when it appeared that they had everything they could ever want or hope to have. The drug use certainly interfered in every aspect of their personal lives. No matter how high these pop icons climbed, you could see them slipping away in their personal lives. By the time Anna Nicole Smith died, her life was a daily tabloid television show with her daily antics and strange behavior broadcast around the nation.
Michael Jackson fell as far as any celebrity possibly could. Amidst scandal, allegations of child molestation, and literally being run out of the country, it was obvious that fame, fortune, and success had done little to boost Michael's life. We can only hope that reports that Michael Jackson came to know Jesus before his death are true. My point isn't to bring up false allegations against Michael Jackson, but rather to point out that though Michael Jackson was "King" of the pop world it meant nothing and most likely cost him his life.
Celebrity deaths are common. Celebrity drug use continually ruins the careers of rising "stars". There is no way around it-
This world cannot offer anything that satisfies the soul.
A wounded spirit, a broken heart, a distraught mind, a life full of pain, burdens, abuse, and turmoil can not be healed through money, fame, success, or riches. It doesn't happen.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
What can a man give in exchange for his soul? Think about it- there is no money, no wealth, no fame, no success that can compare to the worth of your soul.
One soul, here on this earth for only a short while meant so much to God, that He sent His son Jesus to die. Does anyone truly understand what John 3:16 means? Does anyone really hear the Clarion call? Does anyone really understand that every life is equal, every life is worth the same and each life is precious to God?
Sin separates man from God. God is holy, just, and pure. He does not fellowship with sin- He is Light and He does not fellowship with darkness. Humanity, every human, no matter where you live, your status, how much your bank account holds, is lost without God. Every life is here for a short while. During this time, we can seek God and find Him, or choose to ignore Him.
God is real, and His power is real. His Holy Spirit is real, and it is tangible. His presence can be felt, experienced, just like the wind. You do not see the wind, you can not reach out and hold the wind in your hands, but you can feel the wind, and you can see its effects as it blows against you. The wind moves and when it does it moves things in its path- so does the Holy Spirit.
You might not ever see God with your physical eyes, but you will feel Him move with your spirit- just as you will never see the wind blow through a town when it's hit by a hurricane, but you will surely know that the wind has been there.
Jesus came, died, and made the way for man to fellowship with God again. He left us the Holy Spirit and though you might not see the Holy Spirit, you will feel Him, experience Him, and know him, just as you know when a cool gust brushes against your neck that the wind is blowing.
It is only through knowing God, through accepting Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, calling upon His blood that was shed as the payment for your sins, and accepting the free gift of salvation and walking in the Holy Spirit that you will ever find true peace and happiness.
This world has nothing to offer-
Nothing to satisfy the soul
Nothing to heal a broken heart
Nothing to bring peace
Nothing to bring joy
Nothing to bring freedom from sadness
If it did, those who have achieved the highest pinnacle would not turn to drugs to mask their pain.
If you've tried everything else- and are still left wanting-
then try Jesus- try the Holy Spirit of the One True God-
His presence is everywhere- He is not so far away that He won't touch you right where you are-
when you are touched by the mighty presence of God- you will never be the same again.
